Racers Win with IMCA’s Approval of the
EngineQuest® (EQ®) Spec Chevy Cylinder Head, Now also an Option for the Hobby Stock Division

(LAS VEGAS, NV) – The International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) recently announced a rule change that allows the use of the EngineQuest® 76 cc Chevy spec replacement cylinder head (CH350I) for sanctioned competition in the IMCA’s Hobby Stock class beginning with the 2009 season. With this rule change racers and engine builders can use a new EQ® cylinder head and bypass the expense associated with cleaning, repairing or doing valve work on an existing sourced cylinder head.

This spec Chevy cylinder head option is a direct stock replacement for the Chevy 350 head and is manufactured with 167cc intake runners and 76cc combustion chambers, 1.94 intake valves and 1.50 exhaust valves. The EQ stock replacement features a thick deck face for greater strength; CNC machined guides and seats, machined integral guides and hardened exhaust seats.

In 2008, EQ’s manufactured GM stock cylinder head was also approved as an option for IMCA’s Southern and Northern SportMod divisions. Now it is possible to use EQ’s stock replacement cylinder head for three of the IMCA’s nine class divisions. For the Northern and Southern SportMod and Hobby Stock divisions, the cylinder head must remain as produced and valve sizes cannot be changed.  EQ’s Chevy replacement cylinder head is branded with the IMCA logo and is stamped with a serial number that is verified by IMCA.

Mark Moore, AAEQ national sales manager, says “We applaud the change to the Hobby Stock Class rules that will make it much easier for racers to participate in this class while saving them the time, trouble and expense of rebuilding this part. Our relationship with the IMCA continues to grow and we look forward to expanding our presence at the IMCA and an exciting 2009 race season.”

“We’ve long been talking about adding this option to Hobby Stock recognizing the difficulty racers and engine builders are having sourcing a stock cylinder head,” says Brett Root, vice president of IMCA.  “We value our relationship with EngineQuest and feel confident that the timing was right to add the option for a new stock replacement.”
