NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (July 21) – When the checkers flew and the smoke cleared following the Saturday night features, the drivers standing at the top of the Sandhills ShootOut stage at Lincoln County Raceway were David Murray Jr. and Todd Chrisman.

Murray bested the 40-lap IMCA Modified feature, a qualifying event for the 2008 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, while Chrisman was quickest to the finish in the 30-lapper for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.

Steve Arpin came close in his bid for a sixth straight sanctioned victory after sweeping the Big Dog Dakota Tour but couldn’t catch Murray as the laps ticked away and ended the Modified main in second. Ronnie Wallace shot all the way from the 22nd starting spot to round out the top three.

Chrisman denied Jason Davis following a late race caution in the Stock Car show, with third going to Doug Adamy.

James Mlady, the Friday night pole dash winner, led the first 10 laps of the Modified feature, losing the front spot to Murray but getting the point right back when the caution flag came out before they reached the scoring line.

Murray jumped to the lead on the re-start as Arpin moved into contention. The lead pair caught lapped traffic during a long stretch of green, with Murray finding his way through faster to open a comfortable lead.

The field was realigned after a caution for debris with eight to go. Arpin had another chance, but Murray stayed in charge to win his second career Shoot-Out title.
Wallace primarily used the high line to get into third with six laps left, but didn’t have enough time to see what he could do with Arpin and Murray. Jay Noteboom came home in fourth, ahead of Will Brack.

Chrisman jumped ahead at the start of the Stock Car main, followed by John Huffman, Adamy and Davis. The race saw its first of three cautions on the 10th lap after a three car spin in corner four.

On the re-start, Adamy, who had moved into second place, began applying pressure on Chrisman. While Davis and Huffman remained patient behind them, Zach Schultz found his way from the 10th starting spot to make it a five car train near the front.
With less than 10 laps to go, Davis got by Adamy for second. Several laps later, Schultz and Huffman got together, resulting in a flat tire for Huffman. That caution set Davis up for one more shot at Chrisman, but Chrisman’s stranglehold on the lead would not be relinquished.

More than 80 cars from five states and two countries filled the pit area for the ninth annual Shootout.
